Google Supplemental Pages Bookmarklet

This bookmarklet allows you to search Google for supplemental results for the site you are currently browsing (see the Supplemental Results definition in the SEO glossary).

Drag the following link to your toolbar (Firefox) or right click and add to your bookmarks or favourites: Google Supp Pages

This number compared to the total number of pages cached by Google (using the advanced search query site:www.somedomain.com – see this bookmarklet) gives an indication of the overall quality of the site. Check out this post on Aaron Wall’s SEOBook.com.

Supplemental results are a complex issue, but basically pages should be in Google’s main index if you are going to get any search traffic from them.

Indexed Pages in Google Bookmarklet

This bookmarklet allows you to see if a page is included in Google’s index.

Drag the following link to your toolbar or right click and add to your bookmarks or favourites: Google Pages Indexed

If you are viewing the root domain of the site (e.g. http://www.domainname.com), the bookmarklet will show all the pages within the domain that are included in Google. If you use the bookmarklet when you are viewing a sub page, it will only show if that page is indexed.

MS Live Search Backlinks Bookmarklet

This is another handy shortcut bookmarklet for accessing Microsoft Live Search backlink information for a page.

Click and drag the following link to your toolbar or right click and add to your bookmarks or favourites: MS Live External Links

Click on the bookmark to quickly see the pages linking to the one you are viewing according to MS Live search. The bookmark uses the site: command to take away internal links, so only external links are listed.

Page Strength Bookmarklet

SEOMoz.org have a useful tool that gives a measure of the relative importance and visibility in search engines (similar to PageRank). It’s call Page Strength.

It uses the number of inbound links, Alexa rank, PageRank, number of links from other important sites like Technorati and Del.icio.us, and other factors to score pages.

This is a useful measure when a site is new and doesn’t have Pagerank (e.g. the Page Strength for this site is 1.5 while toolbar PageRank for this site is currently 0), or if toolbar PageRank hasn’t been updated for a while.

I made my own SEOMoz Page Strength bookmarklet for finding the Page Strength of the current page, and there is also one on the SEOMoz site.

Yahoo Site Explorer Bookmarklet

This bookmarklet sends the URL of the webpage you are currently viewing to Yahoo Site Explorer and displays the number of incoming links (backlinks) to the page. By default it excludes internal links within the domain, but you can change that once you are on the Yahoo Site Explorer page.

To use, drag the following link into your bookmarks or favourites: Yahoo Inlinks, then click on it when you want to see the inlinks for the page you are viewing.
